4 Year Old Program

Description

Four year-olds learn through direct interactive experiences and learn extraordinary amounts through play and exploration. The curriculum for our four year-olds provides a learning environment that offers activities that encourage exploring, asking questions, sharing information and using imagination. The environment is flexible and responsive to the learning styles of all children, even as they change and grow. Young children in this curriculum are immersed in a language-rich environment. Pre-reading and pre-writing skills are encouraged in learning activities and special emphasis is put on the alphabet and numbers in many class activities.

Classes for 4 year old children meet three days a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00am to 11:30am. Children entering the program for 4 year olds must be 4 by September 30th.

Lori Kachur

Lori Kachur has a degree in Elementary Education from Kent State University. She taught second grade for several years in the Columbus Public Schools.  She holds a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Lori has taught at the Co-op for seven years. She is a mother of three children, and was actively involved in a Co-op program with her children as well. Lori believes parental involvement is very important at an early age. These moments we spend with our children will be "cherished" moments!

Mary Ann Aardema

Mary Ann has been teaching at the Aurora Co-op Preschool since 1996. She feels that the best preschool curriculum, as a complement to children's natural drive to explore, discover, and learn, is a vivid sensory experience where interactions and the environment provide many opportunities for all children to learn and to be successful as they extend and build on their current knowledge and natural curiosity. According to Mary Ann, current research supports the school's developmentally appropriate activities and practices. Our NAEYC accreditation is the most positive endorsement a program can receive. It means that our program has joined one of the most elite learning organizations in the nation!
